Following the arc made by the stars in the handle of the Big Dipper you can easily find Arcturus in Bootes. From there it's a pretty straight shot over to Spica.
This photo was made on 18 August 2010 while Venus, Mars and Saturn were setting in the western sky. Saturn is out of view in this photograph.
