Number 58: Star / Planet Conjunction


October 3, 2012.
This very close pairing in the morning sky places Venus just 0.2° below Regulus - Alpha Leonis.



August 31, 2010.
I've been waiting for this one all month and thankfully we had clear skies in the west. The photo below shows the Spica / Venus / Mars grouping as it appeared a bit after sunset.
According to "This Week's Planet Roundup" on the Sky and Telescope webpage, Spica and Venus are separated by a mere one degree.
I cross-checked this with the handy "Stellarium" freeware program, using the "angle measure" plug-in tool.
