Number 38: Old / Young Crescent Moon

On the morning of August 8th 2010 I was out to try and get some photos of the old crescent moon rising. I almost didn't go out due to thick clouds on the horizon (I could just see the top of the cloud layer illuminated by city lights) but I pressed on and decided to do it.
After chatting with some folks at the gas station I was parked at way out of town, the moon started peeking above the clouds now and then. The rising limb would intermittently peek through the clouds, then disappear again. This went on for several minutes and I was clicking away with the camera just to see what I could get. While not a perfect example of "bulls horns" the first photo is kinda cool, despite being a bit soft on the focus as well. The second photo shows some earthshine...sunlight reflected off the face of the earth and illuminating the "night" portion of the moon.
