For the trip back across the Pacific I'd booked the Qantas flight from Sydney to San Francisco so I could fly aboard a 747-400. Beautiful weather in Sydney made for a nice couple of hours between flights. Had to ride the transfer bus from domestic terminal to international and that was a nice opportunity to be airside for a bit and snap some photos.

I chose a seat in the very back of the plane...second row from the rear port side so I would have only one potential seatmate. She turned out to be a very nice lady from the Bay Area returning home after doing a bucket-list trip to Australia with some gal pals.

Below is my photo of Qantas 747-438(ER) VH-OEH at Sydney prior to boarding for San Francisco.

Dinner served 1:45 after departure. Salmon salad if I remember.

A view of the port-side GE motors of the 747-400(ER) nine hours and 4800 miles into the flight. Qantas is a longtime Rolls Royce customer but Boeing only offered GE motors for the Extended Range version of the 747-400. As such these were unique to the Qantas fleet, and in fact Qantas was the only customer for the passenger version of the 747-400(ER). 40 freighter versions were delivered to worldwide customers.

Breakfast served two hours before arrival at SFO.

Our arrival into SFO was on runway 19L. Below is a thumbnail photo and link to my landing video on YouTube:

I boarded the tram so I could get a photo of VH-OEH at the gate at SFO after my arrival. Rain was falling so most of the photos have raindrops obscuring at least part of the tram windows. This is one photo that doesn't have much of it.
