My long-overdue return to London began with a couple of American Airlines' flights to position me at JFK for the afternoon. I'd waited some time after booking my trans-Atlantic flights on Virgin Atlantic before making the flight arrangements to get to JFK. Recently I'd done flights on jetBlue but I was surfing airline websites one night in January 2017 and discovered American was upgauging the red-eye departure to Charlotte to an A330. Score! I'd not been on a US Airways/American A330 yet so it was the perfect opportunity to do so. The connection to JFK was on a 737-800 to boot...an American Airlines type I'd only flown on once before.
Flying the red-eye to Charlotte on the A330 meant the inbound flight would be arriving PHX in the dark as well so I decided to hang out on the T4 carpark until it arrived. This would allow me to at least get some kind of photo of the plane as it taxied to the gate. Being a wide-body meant it was going to park at gate B25...the gate typically occupied by the British Airways flight from London and some of the other international flights at PHX. This also meant it was not a very photo-friendly gate.

I followed the inbound flight's progress on my phone with anticipation. It was cool that I was going to be flying my second A330 to/from PHX in as many months. N293AY touched down on runway 26 pretty much on the advertised and leisurely made its way back to the gate.

Below is my photo of N293AY taxying towards gate B25 at PHX and below that is the FlightAware screenshot of my flight 2020 to Charlotte.

Arrival into Charlotte was well before sunrise and my flight to JFK was scheduled for 932am so I had some time to kill. I wandered around the gate area and even went up into the main terminal looking for some breakfast. Before too long the sky was brightening and then sunrise. Weather was nice and I was able to watch some planes near my gate area until time to board.

Below is my photo of N293AY at Charlotte after my flight from Phoenix. While being 15 feet longer than the A300-600, you can almost imagine this A330-200 is an older A300 sitting at the gate.

Below is my photo of N808NN arriving Charlotte from Miami prior to my flight to New York JFK. Seeing as how I departed on the 737 right next door to my inbound A330, I was able to observe it from my window seat while waiting to push for JFK. Below that is my photo of N293AY pushing back for its next assignment as #1905 to Orlando.
