After a shortened stay in Australia I flew back to PHX via LAX. My originally booked flights operated ontime and without incident. The SYD-LAX portion seemed to pass fairly quickly, especially since I had Comfort Plus seating and a window seat.

I ended up spending the night before the flight in a hotel near the Sydney airport so I could get checked-in as soon as the ticket counter opened and through security for some plane watching. Thankfully I had a couple of good hours plane watching and some decent lighting to get some photos.

Below is my photo of our 777-232(LR) N702DN at gate 56 prior to boarding for LAX.



After pushing back and taxying to Runway 34L we were number three for takeoff and soon enough we were airborne and on our way to LAX. August 1st 2016 would be a very long day for me in the sense I would experience two sunrises and two sunsets. I didn't take vacation time off for this day so I had to work after I got home. Thankfully my shift didn't begin until 7pm so I had ample time to get home and rest a bit before heading to work.

Transiting Customs and Immigration was pretty painless at LAX. It is nice they have a luggage check station for those making connecting flights...but having to go through TSA checkpoint is a pain in the ass.

Made it through the ordeal with enough time to make the scheduled connection to PHX.
